What do my best friend, my boss, my nurse practitioner, and a sweet, random man in Midtown all have in common? They all stopped me to compliment my new bag. I am convinced that it is universally beloved, and belongs on the arm of every person, stranger dude included. Pop & Suki’s newly launched Lolita bag is my new go-to.

If you have yet to hear of Pop & Suki, it’s the handbag brand launched by Suki Waterhouse and Poppy Jamie, who promote it as “accessories by best friends.” The label is millennial to its core: it was founded by IRL celeb BFFS, their site is bathed in baby pink, it has it-girl fans like Priyanka Chopra and Lily Depp, and their curated Instagram page drives most of their direct-to-consumer sales. They launched in November 2016 with an easy-to-wear camera bag, but the Lolita is where my heart belongs.

Working in the fashion industry, I can spot an it-bag a mile away, and the Lolita was instantly recognizable as the next big thing. It is vaguely reminiscent of vintage ladylike bags, but the varying styles are dressed up in modern fixings like embossed croc and cheeky plaid. I’ve worn it from the office to a night out with ease and don’t foresee that changing any time soon.

The cylindrical shell splits open to reveal a rosy silk lining, and snaps back into shape with a magnetic closure. I won’t lie, though- this is not the bag for someone who packs a week’s worth of crap on a daily basis. It fits no more than my wallet, keys, iPhone (Plus!), and a couple Tom Ford lipsticks. But I like to think positively and convince myself that the bag is encouraging me to live a simpler life.
